Members of Phi Theta Kappa have earned the right to membership into Phi Theta Kappa through their excellence in the classroom. Membership in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is extended to those students who have achieved a minimum GPA, (normally 3.5) have earned twelve credit hours, and are in good standing with the college. These students have earned the right to become a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society serving two year colleges.

"The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among community/technical/junior college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence."
